Welcome to the International Graduate School of English

The International Graduate School of English (IGSE) was established in 2002 by the CEO of Hyundae Yong-o-sa, Yoon Kyoon. Hoping to produce ELT specialists, who contribute their talent to the development of English education in Korea, the CEO donated the profit from his business for the establishment of IGSE. MA courses in TESOL at IGSE is approved by the Ministry of Education Korea, and about 50 ELT professionals graduate and get a MA degree every year.
Note: IGSE is a specialized graduate school that only offers day classes for MA degrees, not evening classes.


Admission Guide


1. Major


* MA in TESOL
* MA in ELT Materials Development (EMD)


2. Scholarship
  - 25% of tuition fee wavered for 4 semesters for all students who are admitted in 2018.
   (From 2019, the scholarship policy will be changed into a grade-base system.)

3. Admission Quota

* The quota for international admissions is not predetermined.

Note: All lectures in IGSE are delivered in English.


 IGSE Pathways

IGSE curricula is meticulously designed in order to foster outstanding ELT professionals. Choosing two or three pathways, students can become experts in various fields, such as lecturers, researchers, materials developers, content creators, and so on.








TESOL Pathway


Young Learner (YL) TESOL Specialist



-Training and research on new concepts of literacy and teaching methods

-Learning materials developing activities based on contemporary ELT methodologies

-Acquiring competence in YL teaching with the Teaching Literacy in the fourth semester

-All courses in this pathway are combined with theory and practice to focus on practical teaching techniques



Second & Adult ELT Specialist


-All courses in this pathway are combined with theory and practice to enhance competency in CLT English education

-Acquiring competence in teaching with the Practical Teaching Methodology in the fourth semester

-Developing materials based on contemporary ELT methodologies




Educational Drama Specialist




-Educational drama research and training for different age, level learners

-All courses in this pathway are combined with theory and practice to foster educational drama specialists

-Developing creativity and empathy applying educational drama to secondary school environment

-A unique course in Korea that adopts drama to ELT and materials development



ELT Researcher/Professor


-Actual outcomes based on systematic learning procedure: a) presentation (in domestic or international conferences) or b) graduation thesis or paper publication

-Learning compiling, managing, and utilizing research resources

-Learning thesis topic searching skills and thesis format

-Qualitative and quantitative research methods

-Descriptive and inferential statistics

-Becoming researchers or PhD students for the next step

-Research vision: ELT and literacy in the fourth industrial revolution era



ELT Materials Development Pathway

Book/Content Development Specialist

-Actual outcomes based on systematic learning procedure: a) presentation (in domestic or international conferences) or b) graduation projects or book/e-book publications

-Book/Content analysis and evaluation


-Theory study and research for book/content development

-Planning and writing individual book/content

-Learning publication process and practice

-Becoming book/content editor, researchers or EMD specialist, self-employed ELT professionals, or ESP specialists

-Research vision: ELT and literacy-related content/book development in the fourth industrial revolution era


Curriculum/Program Developer

-Actual outcomes based on systematic learning procedure: a) presentation in domestic or international conferences) or b) program development and management research

-Book/Content analysis and evaluation


-Theory study and research for program development

-Planning and developing individual programs

-Learning evaluation and management skills for running ELT programs

Writing & Modules

IGSE Curriculum for improving English Competency

-IGSE offers ten systematic Writing and Modules for improving students’ writing and speaking skills every semester.

-All the courses in IGSE are delivered in English, which helps students learn studying ELT knowledge and English skills, and makes studying at IGSE equivalent to studying overseas.
